Description

Diamond Grinding Wheel for Carbide Woodturning Tools — 6″ (80, 180, 240 Grit)

Keep your carbide tipped chisels in peak condition with a diamond grinding wheel — the professional choice for sharpening and maintaining carbide tooling. Unlike standard aluminium oxide grinding wheels, diamond wheels are specifically designed to work with extremely hard materials like carbide, delivering clean, precise results without the risk of overheating or damaging your tips.

These outstanding wheels have an almost indefinite lifespan when treated with respect — making them a one-time investment that pays for itself many times over compared to replacing standard grinding wheels regularly. Designed to fit a standard 6″ high speed bench grinder, they can be used wet or dry — though wet grinding is preferred for the best results and longest wheel life.

Which grit should I choose?

  • 80 Grit — coarse. Use for heavy reshaping, removing significant material or repairing damaged tips. Removes material quickly
  • 180 Grit — medium. The most versatile everyday choice for regular sharpening and maintenance of carbide tips
  • 240 Grit — fine. Use for finishing and polishing after coarser grinding, producing the sharpest possible edge

For most woodturners, the 180 grit is the best all-round choice for maintaining carbide tips in day-to-day use.

Please note: Diamond wheels are designed for carbide and very hard materials. For sharpening standard High Speed Steel (HSS) tools, please use our CBN Grinding Wheel instead — it’s specifically optimised for HSS.

Diamond Grinding Wheel — Professional Carbide Tool Maintenance

As the maker of carbide tipped chisels, I use diamond grinding wheels in my own workshop for maintaining and setting up our tools. Very little pressure is needed — in most cases the weight of the tool alone is sufficient. That’s not marketing — it’s personal experience.

We try not to be beaten on price — direct from the maker, no middleman markup. Any problems will always be handled personally to make sure you’re completely happy. That’s the David Lloyd Tools promise.
